The article considers the organization of examination tests in schools of the Khanty-Mansi National Okrug in the early post-war years. The research is based on the analysis of information and statistical reports, references, and telegrams of the Ugra school administration. The author highlights the objective and subjective factors of the low quality of work of examination commissions in schools. These factors, in the author's opinion, were associated with general problems of school education development in the region.
The article analyzes the staffing of brick factories in Western Siberia during the formation of the West Siberian oil and gas complex. Difficult conditions of their work and everyday life are noted. Attention is drawn to the poor provision of housing and medical services for employees. The article examines the problem of emigration of Jews, Germans, and Russians from the USSR in the early 1990s on the materials of the Tomsk newspaper “Tomsky Express”. The attitude of city residents to this problem is analyzed.
The article analyzes the problems of redevelopment and planting of greenery in the city of Nizhnevartovsk in the period from 1991 to 2019. This makes it possible to review the historical experience of these processes in the city. The analysis allows positioning Nizhnevartovsk as one of the northern cities that managed to create comfortable conditions for the favorable life of the citizens, as well as for progressive development during the period. The results make it possible to extend this positive experience to other cities located on the territory of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Ugra.
Anthropological participant observation of social and cultural processes taking place in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Ugra and specifically in the city of Surgut during 2016–2020, allows analyzing the everyday activities of different ethnic groups of Surgut residents and visitors from nearby places. Based on the available empirical material, we will consider the everyday “ethnic” practices that exist among the Nogais, a Turkic ethnic group living in a community of the region and the city of Surgut. The purpose of the article is to identify practices that demonstrate ethnicity in the everyday life of the Northern city, based on the materials of the Nogais.
